This morning I had the distinct displeasure of listening to an interview of Jim Geraghty of the National Review on XM radio's P.O.T.U.S. 08. Geraghty basically was encouraging Hillary Clinton's leading Democratic opponents, Barack Obama and John Edwards, to increase negative attacks on her. Maybe Geraghty wasn't aware that unwarranted negative attacks against your opponent is largely a Republican strategy and these are Democrats.
He went on to argue that Hillary can't break 50% against any of her potential opponents including Ron Paul and that Democrats needed to see the light quickly. This guy was really spinning this morning. Well Jim let me give you some positives to consider. Hillary is the choice of most Democrats because of her strong points, skilled in governance, intelligence, leadership abilities. A lot of Hillary's so-called negative points are the product of an orchestrated relentless Republican smear and fabrications campaign (ala Swift Boat Veterans) conducted against her and her husband President Bill Clinton.
Hillary is leading because the country has become more comfortable with the prospect of a woman president. Jim, women are competence enough to lead. They lead in business, education, families, and in all walks of life. We are behind the British and the Germans in our acceptance of women serving as the leader of the government. We live in an evolving society and the time has come to elect the United State's first woman president. My prediction is that Hillary Rodham Clinton will withstand Swift Boat Veteran type attacks, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly and Fox News to become that person in 2008.
Sidebar: The reason not to elect a woman president of the United States surely can't be that they will mess things up beyond comprehension. It's too late for that.
