In the movie, I'm Gonna Git You Sucka, two local hoods after being cornered, were given the choice of leaving the building by "taking the stairs or the window", upon which they quickly chose the stairs. In the next scene, the hoods are seen painfully tumbling down the stairs presumably after being forcibly pushed. For them, either of their available options, the window or the stairs, would lead to a bad outcome. It was a no-win situation.
There is a similar dilemma facing the Republicans in the 2008 Presidential Sweepstakes. In the race for the White House, the GOP is pondering whether their weakest Democratic opponent would be Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama? After months of having high profile Republicans and their surrogates begging for Hillary with the hope of actually getting anyone but Hillary, evidence is growing that a head-to-head contest against Obama in the general election could prove to be just as difficult.
Judging by the strategic criticism and negative assaults being heaped upon Hillary and Obama recently by Karl Rove, it seems that the Republicans now fear equally both Democratic candidates. What is a person to do? Is it the window or the stairs? Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama? For the GOP, either choice is going to lead to an undesired outcome in November 2008.
