My opinion about the electability of Barack Obama to serve as President of the United States has changed. After months of thinking to the contrary, I now think that Obama has a chance. At least I'm willing to commit a vote to finding out. Obama has been amazing. Obama has surprised a lot of people including many opponents whom I felt at one time saw him as an easy mark.
I hope that the country finally is at a place where race really doesn't matter. I hope it has become a place where white voters are truthful about their voting intentions. We know that all of the country aren't there. Barack doesn't do as well with older white voters as he does with the young who tend to be more accepting of racial differences.
Previously, I felt that a Clinton/Obama or an Obama/Clinton ticket did not have much of a chance of being viable. I have changed my mind in that regard also. The country is acting like it might be ready to grow up and rewrite history. A popular song reminds us that "Everything Must Change". Although I remain somewhat of a skeptic, increasingly more and more Americans are becoming excited about the prospects of Obama being President and I too am willing to "roll the dice" on the young upstart who has so much potential.
I admit that my willingness to take a chance on Obama is influenced by the Clintons willingness to treat their Black support worst than a jilted lover. And like that jilted lover, once trust is betrayed, the relationship just doesn't feel the same anymore. You actually start to look at other suitors more objectively and the door opening to a different relationship has a greater possibility. Hillary had better hope that if she ends up as the Democratic nominee, that enough Black voters are willing to overlook the Clintons' recent transgressions and support her enthusiastically at the polls. That remains to be seen.
Sidebar: The political meal that Hillary Clinton has chosen contains White and Latino voters, with Black voters placed on the side.
